Big-Hearted Scottish Water Volunteers' Festive Fun21 December 2018
Scottish Water's Director of People,Shirley Campbell, joins team to help out at Edinburgh charity shop
Shirley Campbell, Director of People at Scottish Water, said: “We wanted to give something back this festive season and know the great work the British Heart Foundation does to help save lives. It was great fun and really got us all in the festive spirit.”
All 4,500 Scottish Water staff are encouraged to volunteer in their communities and are given two days a year to do this. Volunteer work includes litter-picking at Portobello and Granton beaches and talks at schools and nurseries across the Lothians about what not to put in the sewer network. By the end of this month the organisation will have donated more than 600 volunteer days (4440 hours) in 2018.
Anna Barker, Manager at BHF Scotland’s Nicolson Street shop, said: “The Scottish Water team were a great help. We are really busy at this time of year and every hour of volunteering makes such a difference. One in four people die from heart and circulatory diseases in the UK. By donating their time, volunteers are playing a key role in helping us beat heartbreak for families and loved ones.
“We currently have 38 regular volunteers who come in for between four hours and three days a week. As one of our busiest stores, we are always looking for volunteers so we thank Scottish Water for helping out and look forward to welcoming them to the store again next year.”
